Seeing Good Design

I chose the logo for World Wide Fund for Nature because I like its simplicity. It is a panda, so there are no need for additional colors, and it is recognizable without the "WWF." I also really like the use of negative space on the pandas head and back. You can also see how the logo evolved in this timeline. They originally added a black line for the back of the panda, but in the late 80s. They changed it to reshape the panda, and I think it works really well here.

For the single page, I chose the lineup poster for Frendly Gathering 2014. I chose this because I like how realistic it is. I actually went to this festival and it looks exactly the way it does on the poster. In festival poster designs, I expect the poster to look like the festival. I think the artist did a great job here. I also like the arrangement of the text, and how the most popular music groups are listed at the top, and the text gets smaller on your way down. I like how the text is in the sky, so there are no empty blank spaces. I also really like how "Music, Inspiration, Camping & Frendship" are on the trees, i think it really stands out.

For my multipage spread, I chose a spread by Bullet Magazine. This spread caught my attention the most because the magazine used the full photo on both pages. I notice a lot in multipage spreads that the images are only on one side, or on one side and barely on the next. I think this works well especially cause some of the items in the images are so small, and there is not a lot of text.

https://www.dominos.com/en/ for my website, I chose dominos.com because I love how interactive it is. When I first log in to their website, they welcome me and show me how many pizza points I have. I like how the website is similar to their packaging; red and blue, with coupons everywhere. My favorite part about this website is making your own pizza. I think its really important to show what your making, and in this case, you can literally see everything you're putting on your pizza. I also really like the dominos tracker, that tells you when your pizza is being made, until its ready for pickup or out for delivery. I think it's a really good idea because it forces you to stay on the website, and it's fun.

For my choice, I chose illustrations by Tom Wallen. I really like how the artist uses color and shadow in his artwork. In these three illustrations he makes half of everyones face darker, and I think its really cool because it almost makes it seem like something dramatic or exciting is happening. I also really like how he places the characters. He doesn't just include the main characters. He also uses scenes or objects from the movie. I think he did a really successful job explaining the movie in a poster.

https://thefirmgraphics.com for the professional design practice, I chose the Firm Graphics. They are based in Colorado and they design posters, websites and flyers for big festivals. My three favorite designs are under the Camp Bisco, Electric Forest, and EDC category. This is the kind of art that I want to be doing when I graduate, and I feel very inspired to redesign festival posters for a project.
